Oil Painting Portraits

MONDAY EVENING - 3-Week Course for Intermediate to Advanced Students

Description

Level: Intermediate to Advanced Instructor: PJ Svedja * Supplies Not Included (see supply list below) January Subject: Young African American Woman This 3-week class is a concentration on the traditional Dutch Masters way of painting, a technique which consists of thin layers of color over a strong value study in order to create smoothness and glow. In this session we will focus on the specific details and traits that are unique creating a likeness in portraits. Follow along step-by-step and learn proportion, measuring and creating a likeness. This class will use oil on canvas. ---------------------------------------------- * * * * * * SUPPLY LIST * * * * * * ---------------------------------------------- TOOLS: ------------------------- - (Solvent) Gamblin Gamsol or Eco Solve are the least toxic options - Oil Paint Medium (Linseed oil, Walnut Oil, or Liquin Original by Winsor & Newton which is my favorite) - Several small canvases or canvas panels - Palette knife - Jar with a tight closing lid (for the solvent) - Apron (Optional) OIL PAINT COLORS ( Gamblin brand paints are the healthiest) ------------------------- - Titanium White - Cadmium Yellow Light - Ultramarine Blue - Phthalo Blue - Burnt Sienna - Yellow Ochre - Indian Yellow - Permanent Rose (Windsor & Newton)) BRUSHES ------------------------- A Variety of sizes ranging from small detail brushes to larger 1 inch flat brushes (A variety pack will work). I also like to have a few bristle brushes and nylon brushes in my set, but these are optional. PALLET ------------------------- Since oil paint does not dry quickly and can be reused I recommend getting a pallet that can be closed such as the stay wet palette or even a pizza box or some sort of flat box that you can put your pallet in and carry it with you from week to week. Styrofoam plates are a good option as well. They can be put in a Ziploc bag and preserved for the next week. Questions? Email us at info@studioartfarm.com or message us on Facebook or Instagram.
