"My artwork explores the natural world through abstract painting, inspired by a deep connection to the environment. Years of boating and witnessing stunning landscapes have shaped my desire to capture the essence of sunrises, sunsets, and the powerful energy of the ocean. My years in the commercial greenhouse business have shown me the beauty and textures in our world. The colors and textures I observe draw me in and motivate me to translate their beauty onto canvas, creating works that feel vibrant and alive.
I primarily use acrylic paints, building up thick layers and making marks that add complexity and dimension. My approach is experimental, learning through the process as I blend mediums including gels, pastes, inks, and gold rubs. This allows me to develop rich textures and vivid surfaces, imbuing each piece with an organic quality that reflects the forms and rhythms found in nature. But, I also dabble with oils and cold wax medium that allows for a completely different outcome on the canvas. I love how each medium reacts differently and enjoy the process of learning about all of them. Ultimately, my art serves as a tribute to the world around us, a continual exploration of the subtle interplay between color, texture, and movement that defines natural landscapes. This organic sensibility guides my work, inviting viewers to connect with the environment on an intuitive and emotional level."
